Our Story
It all started with a conversation, a chat with Polytron Founder Andrew Kerr and an old friend and colleague from the marine industry. Back in 2010, he shared tales of a special product seen in high-end yachts. Andy was intrigued, captivated by its sheer coolness. He then began his journey of research, driven to uncover the source of this extraordinary innovation.
At the time, Polytron was a one-person operation. Andy was working alone, manufacturing and installing glass, teaching himself the ropes of commercial glazing. Eventually, the supplier Polytronix was found, an innovator with over 40 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and marketing liquid crystal displays in Texas—the very pioneers of the switchable glass product we’re renowned for today.
Andy realised that if he was going to excel in the field, he needed to be surrounded by the best and in turn worked closely with the pioneers at Polytronix to learn from the best in the industry. And, their friendship remains strong to this day.
As Polytron expanded, they transitioned from importing pre-fabricated panels to sourcing their own film and utilised a friend’s lamination facility. Andy was manufacturing these panels himself and traveling the world to source the best equipment for the local Gold Coast facility. It was a challenging journey, yet it’s one that he’s most proud of.
Today, we are a close-knit, highly skilled team of craftsmen, consistently delivering stunning award winning projects.
